Siblings Fred and Anna (Annie) Rebo - 1931

Anna Maria Elizabeth Rebo

Anna (Annie) Maria Elizabeth Rebo was born on July 9, 1894, in Dallas Township, Barron County, Wisconsin to Dorothy (Dora) Sophia Elise Hanna Handorf, age 27, and Erdmann Rudolph Herrmann Riebow, age 30.  Annie was their fourth child.

Anna Maria Elizabeth Rebo lived in Rice Lake, Barron County, Wisconsin, in 1900.  June 1, 1905 finds Anna living in Stinnett, Washburn County, Wisconsin, and by 1910 Annie and family were living in Stone Lake, Washburn County, Wisconsin.

Court records show that Anna Rebo married Chester H. Spear (1887- ??) on July 10, 1912, one day after turning 18 years old. Chester lived in Earl and was 25 at the time, his and her first marriage.  Chester was born in Minnesota to a farmer by the name of P. [Pascal] P. and Ida [Purrier] Spear.  His father, P.P, was born in New York and his mother, Ida, was born in Michigan.  Annie and Chester were married at Stone Lake, Washburn Co., Wisconsin.  The ceremony was performed by William J. Vincent of Shell Lake, witnesses were Lizzy Himrod of Earl, and Lewis Spear, also of Earl.  This marriage information comes from record Vol.4, page 250 of the Washburn County records.

Fairly little is known about the life of Anna (Annie) Rebo.  A family note, and research done by an member of the Washburn County courthouse records substantiate a marriage between Annie and Chester Spear on July 10, 1912.

At some point Annie and Chester either divorced or she was widowed.

Family photos tell a story of a second marriage, to a man named Arnold, but research as of yet has not uncovered what happened to her first marriage to Chester, nor documentation of the second marriage.  Another family member on notes Annie’s second husband’s name was “Arnold Nielson” but I've not yet found documentation to substantiate that last name.  Family records have the name of "Nielsen" as Anna's spouse, but again no official records as of yet have been found documenting their marriage, or whether they had any children.

If Annie was indeed a Nielson, there is a possibility that she had a son by the name of Arnold A. Nielson.  The Chicago, Cook County, Illinois 1940 US Census lists a 25 year old Arnold A Nielsen, wife Virginia H, 22 years old, both of whom were born in Illinois.  Arnold was a shipping clerk, Virginia was a bookkeeper at a “wholesale department store”.  If this Arnold is Annie’s son, she would have been 21 when he was born, and would have had to been either divorced or widowed and remarried between the ages of 18 and 21.

Another possibility is that Arnold A. is the son of Annie's second husband, Arnold Nielson, by another marriage.
